If a product is launched to the market without a prototype, technology commercialization is incomplete. This prototype is a process in developing a product by creating a prototype model. Starting with Pre-Production (product manufacturing planning), moving on to Production (material manufacturing and product assembly), and finally, Post-Production (distribution and evaluation). The question is how do we create a prototype to create the best and most appealing product for the community?
SBM ITB invited a guest lecturer, M.D.s. Intan Rizky Mutiaz, an expert in Visual Communication and Multimedia and an aesthetic activist to answer these questions in a virtual class., Tuesday (1/3/2022).
According to Intan, a product must have a selling value criterion before being released to the public. “Prototyping is done to ensure that our resources are not wasted. The value must be directly accepted, felt, and absorbed by the target market,” said Intan.
Please remember that this prototyping technique can be applied to a wide range of goods and services. This technique is commonly used on tangible goods, such as food, medicine, skincare, automobiles, etc. However, these testing techniques and methods can essentially be applied to intangible goods, such as films, software, applications, websites, and other useful products.
Intan, a lecturer at the ITB Faculty of Arts and Design, also stated that visual product communication currently dominates and is widely used. Designer activists are challenged to create products that can capture the attention of a large number of people in a short period.
“Even for YouTube advertisements, we have a 5-second window to capture people’s attention. This also applies to applications and websites; all values must be fully communicated so that consumers are willing to try. As a result, we must be able to capitalize on this opportunity,” said Intan.
Intan also stated that attention is vital in prototyping that we can map and plan based on this experiences. Once the company’s attention has been diverted, the company should ensure that the value of the product is user-friendly and valuable so that the user can get the best experience to solve their problems.
