People with disabilities have faced many challenges from different aspects. One of the most significant is the challenge of entering the job market. The disability employment gap between the disabled and non-disabled people is still high all around the world, including in Indonesia. There is a gap for people with disabilities who often face barriers in the workforce that relate to the stigma attached to disability. In the 63rd episode, SBM ITB Talks will discuss the world of disability employment, the role of government and corporations, the return on disability, and how social institutions play a major role in that scope.

How the Sociopreneurship Journey Started

After earning her master’s degree and receiving job offerings in multinational companies, Nicky finds out about the huge gap between disabled people and the “normal” in many aspects, like education and career. Nicky felt lucky to be one of the few who made it through great education and career opportunities and decided that she wanted to make contributions to the disabled community. Nicky met Angkie Yudistia, Thisable Enterprise CEO, through social media. Nicky was doubtful at first whether or not she should cancel her job offerings and journey towards the unknown to contribute to society. After her short trip to India, Nicky resolved that she will start the journey and join Thisable Enterprise in 2017. Joining Thisable Enterprise later led her to be part of many other social enterprises, like Berdaya Bareng and Tenoon.
