A successful business is one that can perform the best in all aspects, including the human capital management. Supporting the mission of SBM ITB in educating the students to be innovative and impactful future leaders, SBM ITB introduces Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation – Behavior or FIRO-B in People and Organizational Behavior (POB) course for the joined preparation phase program. This material was delivered exclusively by Ezra Hizkia Nathanael in the offline guest lecture session on Tuesday (29/6/2022).
According to Ezra, there are three core questions for using FIRO-B in a business context. “With whom I interact with, do my interactions impact my business, and how do I improve my interaction with others,” he mentioned those three points.
By answering the three questions, students are expected to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Besides, students’ ability to understand one’s behavior and its effect on others is also expected by the teaching team after this session. Through the early exposure in this education about the human aspect and its interaction with others, there is a great hope that students can be businessmen who always pay attention to creating not only a profitable business but also one that has a healthy interaction both internally and externally.
FIRO-B has three main components: inclusion, control, and affection. Those components will be examined from two perspectives: from how a person expresses it or “Expressed,” and how a person receives it or “Wanted.”
Although it seems complex, Ezra succeeded in wrapping the material in a simple and engaging way. One-way presentation was done in the first 30 minutes, followed by an interactive session that aroused participation from the students. In between the sessions, Ezra allowed the audience to ask a question.
