SBM ITB held a Cultural Trip for student exchange for Semester 1 2022/2023 to the Kampung Adat Banceuy. This event introduced students to Sundanese culture.
Eighty participants attended this event, with more than thirty of them are international students.
Kampung Adat Banceuy is located in Sanca Village, Ciater District, Subang. The word deliberation or, in other words, ‘Ngabanceuy’ is the beginning of the formation of the Kampung Adat Banceuy, which is known today.
Students are divided into three large groups, becoming their bus group. It takes approximately three hours from Bandung to Kampung Banceuy.
Arriving at the village, the group was greeted by the Kampung Banceuy tradition with dance performances and rituals. Two international students represented the welcoming ritual of the Kampung Adat Banceuy. This ritual is called a turmeric bath, to cleanse oneself.
After the welcoming ceremony by the residents of Kampung Banceuy, the groups were treated to traditional food produced by the villagers, consisting of taro, corn, sweet potatoes, and cassava.
There is no special meaning to this food. It was just a symbol of welcome from the villagers to the students.
In addition to serving traditional agricultural food, the village also offers students the experience of making sawen: a sign when there is a ritual, which is made from palm leaves. The philosophy of the palm tree is that it is a versatile tree; everything can be used.
Next, students are invited to make their kue satu, a traditional cake from Kampung Banceuy made from sticky rice and palm sugar. After making one cake, the students were treated to traditional foods made by women in the village: grilled chicken, tempeh and tofu, capcay, and traditional chili sauce.
After that, students were invited to experience traditional games from Kampung Banceuy. The game itself consists of four traditional games. There are two groups consisting of international students, buddies, and villagers. Students had so much fun with the games.
After finding the winner of the game, the next student was taken to the forest on foot. This forest was once a tourist destination because of the beauty of the waterfall. However, it became increasingly unpopular as more waterfalls were discovered. In addition, the villagers do not like the act where tourists leave trash in the place.
In the forest, students are shown how to plant trees and are given the opportunity to plant their own. Then, they were shown how to make a fire with just tree bark. The attraction of making fire with tree bark closed the student cultural tourism activities. Students then return to their buses and return to MBA ITB at 17.00 WIB on the same day.
