Eli Sulistyowati and Ramel Akil P, two students of SBM ITB majoring in Management, won the Business Management Competition #8, organized by the Student Association of the Department of Commerce, Bali State Polytechnic.
In the competition with the theme “Sharpening the Potential of Young People in Seizing Business Opportunities Through Digital Transformation,” Eli and Akil defeated more than 40 teams from three countries.
Their startup idea was named Tutorin. Tutorin is a learning platform for tutoring high school students, especially in science and mathematics.
“Tutorins facilitate students to study with tutors flexibly. It is different from conventional tuition center, which is packaged annually,” said Akil when interviewed on Tuesday, 6/9/2022. “In addition, the tutors at Tutorin are students. We provide a platform for students to earn extra income.”
Eli and Akil’s journey to get to Tutorin was quite long. According to Eli, they had time to participate in a similar competition with other ideas before going forward with this one.
“We’ve tried investment, agriculture, everything,” said Eli.
Those experiences are what encourage them to compete with Tutorin.
“Based on past ideas, we observed and judged that Tutorin was the most appropriate, comprehensive, and feasible idea to be implemented,” said Akil. “So, we went ahead with this idea and won.”
Eli admitted that their victory in this competition could not be separated from the support from SBM ITB.
“SBM supports us in this competition. Before the presentation, there is usually a consultation session with one of the supervisors, Kak Dany Athory. We tried pitching it to Kak Dany; then we got the review of the parts needing to be improved, either the presentation slides or the presentation style.”
Eli and Akil also registered Tutorin for the 2022 Student Digital Entrepreneurial Innovation Program (IWDM) organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. They hope Tutorin can achieve its initial goal, which is to benefit education in Indonesia.
