SBM ITB held the 2022 International Virtual Course (IVC) on November 24-25, 2022. One of the IVCs was sharing background knowledge. Several students from various countries joined the Zoom meeting for the discussion.
Dr. Anggara Wisesa, SBM ITB Lecturer, presented “Foundation of Society and Empowerment in the Indonesian Context.” He emphasized how culture is an essential aspect of human and business interaction, which brings a competitive advantage, especially to countries like Indonesia.
He further conveyed that several key factors needed to be analyzed: family, economy, religion, education, and government. Of course, the conflict arises from the culture itself.
“As communities grow larger, they become unequal in wealth and more competitive with other groups of society,” said Anggara.
One way to resolve the conflict is community empowerment, creating a new paradigm. This is where all aspects are improved or changed for the better. For example, dependency becomes continuity; the command system becomes a learning process; incremental change becomes transformation, and many more.
Another speaker, Melia Famiola Hariadi, Ph.D, explained from a greener side, such as the incubation of sustainability initiatives. She is promoting the solution she developed called the Green Terrace Project.
The environment can impact our daily lives. Not only theory, but Melia also showed examples, such as how to recycle garbage or waste.
