Five students from the Entrepreneurship Study Program, School of Business Management and Electrical Engineering, School of Electrical and Informatics Engineering, ITB, once again won a national scale business plan competition, Pertamuda Seed and Scale 2022, on Saturday (10/12). They are Nadhira Valenia Widyatama Putri, Ananda Humaira Putri Salsabila, Vasharin Vilzha Zaqira, Thomas Aquinas Ardi Jagatpati, and Ahmad Aziz.
The business they brought was Cody Kit, the first coding-based learning game startup in Indonesia. Cody Kit beat 2,445 teams from 386 universities in Indonesia and get a business development fund of IDR 100 million and a coaching fund of IDR 25 million.
Cody Kit’s vision is to instill computational thinking early on for children starting at four. Currently, Cody Kit is designing two products for different age ranges.
The first is CodyPlay, a series of books containing various games targeted at children aged 4-6 years. This series will consist of four books, each discussing a different stage of computational thinking—decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking.
The second product is the Cody Kit, a robot that can be assembled easily like Lego. After assembling this kit, the kids were faced with a mission, where they had to order the robot to fulfill the mission by coding.
Before winning Pertamuda Seed and Scale this year, Cody Kit also participated in the same competition last year. At that time, Cody Kit had just started creating a business plan and raw prototype, which they completed within a week.
Unexpectedly, the judges and audience responded positively, and they made it into the top 20 against more than 2,000 teams. This certainly motivated the Cody Kit team to go further with their business. The Cody Kit team came from the Entrepreneurship study program and even chose Cody Kit as their business for their final project.
“Fun fact, the prizes we get from winning competitions are channeled into research and development, product testing, and our production budget. We don’t use any money for personal gain,” said Ananda Humaira, Chief Marketing Officer of Cody Kit.
With these funds, Cody Kit has tested their products on several potential users. On their social media pages, it can be seen that many people, including children, have assembled this kit in person during the Ganesha Business Festival exhibition earlier this year. Their reaction prompted the Cody Kit team to continue developing their product to increase product effectiveness.
After the success at Pertamuda Seed and Scale 2022, Cody Kit has also planned their short-term targets. One of them is releasing its first kit to the market. In addition, they also released a second CodyPlay book, following the success of the first.
