A profound understanding of legal aspects and intellectual property (IP) is essential for technopreneurs to navigate the business landscape. This was emphasized by R. Rizky A. Adiwilaga, an Intellectual Property Management Consultant at Adiwilaga & Co., during a guest lecture entitled “Legal Aspects and Intellectual Properties Management” at the SBM ITB on Tuesday (28/11).
Adiwilaga highlighted that technopreneurs must adeptly manage legal aspects and intellectual property to ensure the smooth and successful operation of their businesses.
“Without effective management, technopreneurs may encounter various legal risks, such as lawsuits, copyright violations, and unfair competition,” warned Adiwilaga.
He further explained several legal challenges commonly faced by technopreneurs, including company legal matters such as the establishment of business entities, business licensing, and compliance with regulations. Understanding Indonesia’s applicable laws and regulations is imperative for technopreneurs to ensure lawful and seamless business operations.
According to Adiwilaga, technopreneurs must also grasp contract law issues, including drafting sound and accurate contracts and resolving contract disputes. A foundational understanding of contract law is crucial for technopreneurs to protect their rights in business.
Simultaneously, intellectual property legal matters include protecting copyrights, patents, brands, and industrial designs. Technopreneurs must proactively protect their intellectual work to prevent harm from other parties.
“With a solid understanding, technopreneurs can take appropriate measures to protect their businesses and avoid legal risks,” emphasized Adiwilaga.
To manage legal aspects and intellectual property effectively, Adiwilaga offered several tips for technopreneurs. These include seeking counsel from experienced legal advisors, conducting thorough legal research, and creating comprehensive legal documentation.
