Entrepreneurship is about business, culture, and the encouragement of value creation. MSME-based entrepreneurship focuses on regional markets, while Innovation-Based Entrepreneurship (IDE) targets the global market.

“Innovation is about updating technology and creating something better to make everyday life easier,” said Agus Budiyono, Advisor to the Minister of Industry, during a guest lecture on Management of Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship at the SBM ITB on Wednesday (17/7).

Agus emphasized the importance of understanding marketing methods and strategies to bring innovation to the market. In his lecture, he highlighted the critical role of innovation and entrepreneurship in creating impactful solutions. The educational ecosystem must collaborate with multiple stakeholders to develop comprehensive solutions across various industrial sectors.

Agus noted that campuses in Indonesia face challenges in engaging industry and improving the quality of graduates. He mentioned that ITB has the potential to compete globally, similar to MIT, whose alumni have created over 31,000 companies with annual revenues of US$1.9 trillion, equivalent to the 10th largest economy in the world.

Agus stressed the importance of creating industrial collaboration, funding, and investment to achieve an ideal innovation ecosystem. ITB launched an ecosystem-based entrepreneurship program to support business growth and innovation. This program facilitates the transition from B2B (Business to Business) to E2B (Ecosystem to Business), offering benefits such as diverse expertise, comprehensive solutions, risk mitigation, market expansion, and resource optimization.

ITB collaborates with various stakeholders, including technology companies, consulting firms, universities, and communities, to provide holistic solutions to industry challenges. The program comprises three stages: Pre-Engagement, Project Engagement Period, and Post-Engagement, with detailed strategy and technical documents. Collaborative teams develop progress reports and innovative solutions during the Project Engagement Period. The Post-Engagement stage involves evaluating the project impact and analyzing the engagement process.

With this program, ITB aims to align academic research with industry needs, ensure ongoing engagement, and increase the university’s visibility through regular events and joint publications.
