The SBM ITB held the SBM ITB Industry Appreciation Luncheon 2024 at The Westin Jakarta on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. This event was a gesture of gratitude to industry partners who have supported the program and served as a platform to introduce curriculum changes and innovations in learning, including a new course called Industry Based Learning, designed to bridge the gap between education and industry needs.
In higher education, especially in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, collaboration with industry is critical in producing graduates ready to face real business challenges. The MBA ITB program at the Bandung and Jakarta campuses has established close cooperation with various industry partners. This collaboration is manifested through organizing in-house MBA classes at partner facilities and consistently submitting student work for participation in the program.
The event began with an opening by Dr. Yos Sunitiyoso, Chair of Master’s Program in Business Administration Jakarta Campus at ITB Jakarta, who presented the updates to the MBA ITB In-House Program curriculum. In this update, the total credits required for students increased from 36 credits to 54 credits, aligning with industry needs and developments.
The curriculum update includes two main forms, namely the Tailor-Made Curriculum, that can be customized according to the specific needs of industry partners. First, there is a curriculum for the MBA Program consisting of 18 courses and 5 major options: Business Leadership, Sustainability, Energy Management, Strategic Management, and Investment. Each participant must be a minimum of 30 people, with a fee of IDR 140 million per participant.
Dr. Yos also underscored the pivotal role of industry partners in shaping the learning experience for students. The program offers additional activities, such as exhibitions and company visits, designed to enrich students’ learning experience. Registration for this program will open in September 2024, with the first intake in February 2025, inviting industry partners to be part of this transformative journey.
The program is also designed to allow students to engage directly in relevant industry projects, enhancing their practical skills and building strong professional networks. These activities, organized throughout the program, will equip students with the confidence and competence to excel in their future careers.
Following this, Dr. Sylviana Maya Damayanti, Chair of Master’s Program in Business Administration
Bandung Campus introduced a new course in the MBA ITB called Industry Based Learning (IBL). This course is designed to bring students closer to the industry by providing direct insight into real-world problems companies face.
Dr. Sylviana explained that the IBL course aims to give students real-world insight, enabling them to apply academic knowledge in practical contexts. This course is also expected to better prepare students to work in their chosen fields and majors, hoping that graduates from this program can attain positions higher than just Management Trainee.
Moreover, the SBM ITB curriculum has a policy of having at least two guest lecturers per course to provide broader exposure to students. This program also involves several well-known industry partners, such as Grant Thornton Indonesia, Heinz ABC Indonesia, PT Berdikari, Olam Indonesia (OFI), Feedloop Ai, and Telkom Corporate University at PT Telkom Indonesia, who will serve as guest lecturers in this course. With various topics and case studies discussed, IBL offers students a unique and exciting opportunity to deeply understand industry dynamics.
The IBL course will begin in September 2024 and run until December 2024, with one of the unique features of the MBA SBM ITB being its intensive case study discussion method. Students learn theory and develop problem-solving skills relevant to industry needs through this approach.
Dr. Sylviana also invited industry representatives present to get involved in this program, either as guest lecturers or in other collaborations, to enrich students’ learning experience and help companies find the right talent.
After the presentation, the event continued with an award session divided into two categories. The first category, Top 3 Master Class, was awarded to three companies with the best performance in the Master Class program. Bukit Asam, Pertamina EP, and Borneo Indobara received this award. It was presented by the Head of the MBA Program at SBM ITB Bandung Campus, Dr. Sylviana Maya Damayanti.
