Dedev Parulian, Head of Human Resources at Olam Food Ingredients (OFI) for Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor Leste, emphasized that understanding the type and purpose of an organization is fundamental to shaping its behavior. Using OFI as an example, Dedev explained that a profit-driven company must adopt an aggressive and consumer-oriented approach to meet business development demands.

OFI, a multinational company in the food sector, specializes in five main product categories: cocoa, coffee, dairy, nuts, and spices. Dedev also highlighted the core components that define an organization: people, structure, culture, goals, and processes.

“In an organization, the number one priority is people because everything we do revolves around them,” said Dedev during the Industry-Based Learning Series 4 seminar titled “Navigating the Global Stage: How Organizational Behavior and People Management Drive Success in the Global Industry.” The event, organized by SBM ITB, was held at Amphitheater 1, MBA ITB Bandung, on Friday (8/11).

In his presentation, Dedev highlighted the critical role of organizational behavior and HR management in the success of companies on the global stage. Furthermore, he introduced the HR life cycle, which consists of several key stages: Attraction, Recruitment, Onboarding, Development, Retention, and Separation. Dedev also highlighted the importance of strong leadership skills in addition to technical skills.

“Leadership skills are not just about leading, but also building connections at every level of the organization,” said Dedev.

The seminar provided an in-depth exploration of how organizational behavior influences the employee life cycle, including its impact on organizational culture, employee engagement, and overall performance. Dedev concluded that effective HR management fosters a positive, productive, and sustainable work environment, enabling companies to continuously innovate and thrive in the global market.
