The SBM ITB, inaugurated its MBA and Doctor of Science in Management (DSM) programs at the Rotana City Center Hotel, Doha, Qatar, on Friday (11/29). This event marked a significant milestone in SBM ITB’s globalization strategy to meet the growing demands of Indonesian professionals in Qatar’s energy sector.
The inauguration was attended by several distinguished figures, including the Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, Ridwan Hassan, the Dean of ITB Graduate School, the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs at SBM ITB, the Heads of the MSM-DSM and MBA Study Programs, the Chair of IAITB Qatar, and the Chair of the Indonesian Citizens Association in Qatar.
Vice Dean of Academic Affairs at SBM ITB, Subiyakto Soekarno, highlighted that the MBA-DSM program in Qatar was inspired by Indonesian engineers, many of whom are ITB alumni and members of IAITB Qatar.
“This high-quality education program will enhance their business and managerial skills, enabling them to make greater contributions to Qatar’s oil and gas industry,” said Subiyakto. “We recognize the unique demands of professionals in Qatar. The program’s curriculum meets the academic standards of our programs in Indonesia while providing the flexibility required in a dynamic environment.”
Chair of the MSM-DSM Study Program, Dr. Anggara Wisesa, emphasized the program’s relevance to Qatar’s energy-dominated industrial landscape.
“By offering the DSM program to professionals here, we aim to harness the knowledge and expertise in Qatar and establish pathways for research collaboration and knowledge exchange that benefit both countries,” Wisesa stated. “We have invested extensively in our faculty to ensure they can conduct industry-relevant research and deliver impactful teaching tailored to this context.”
Wisesa also stressed the need for academia and industry to collaborate to drive progress. This partnership will help advance management science, benefiting companies, communities, and governments worldwide.
Chair of the Master’s Program in Business Administration Bandung Campus, Dr. Sylviana Maya Damayanti, elaborated on the distinctive features of the postgraduate program in Qatar. The MBA program offers unique advantages, including global networking opportunities and a focus on practical experience.
“Our students, who hold positions in international companies and bring an average of over five years of work experience, contribute to a dynamic learning environment where real-world challenges and solutions are discussed,” Sylviana explained.
In addition, SBM ITB Special Staff for Institutional Cooperation, Andang Liestyarini, underlined the importance of fostering global business awareness and entrepreneurial leadership.
“SBM ITB’s postgraduate program in Qatar is designed to equip students with these essential competencies, preparing them for leadership roles in the global arena,” said Andang.
Andang also highlighted the institution’s eagerness to collaborate with universities in Qatar for a double degree program, further enhancing international exposure for MBA students and expanding ITB’s alumni network in the region. The MBA program, now in its third cohort, has successfully supported Indonesian professionals in Qatar.
