SBM ITB, introduced the Mini SBM program and new Industry-Based Learning courses at the ITB Open House, held at Sasana Budaya Ganesha, ITB, Bandung, on Saturday (4/1). Organized by ITB’s Directorate of Non-Regular Education, the event aims to prepare students for university life.
During the open house, Prof. Ir. Ridwan Sutriadi, Director of ITB Non-Regular Education, introduced the Light Akademia Program, a pre-university initiative designed to help prospective students navigate the challenges of higher education at ITB. Under the tagline #SemuaBisaBelajardiITB, the program seeks to bridge academic gaps and ease students’ transition to more complex coursework.
SBM ITB also used the open house to introduce the Mini SBM Program, a one-year vocational program designed to enhance fundamental skills and competencies while preparing students for the workforce. The program aims to develop The Future Operational Manager through direct collaboration with industry. To date, 32 graduates have completed the program, with 24 securing employment with partner companies immediately after graduation.
Additionally, SBM ITB introduced a new course called “Industry-Based Learning”, which immerses students in real-world industry challenges, functioning as junior consultants. Dr. N. Nurlaela Arief, SBM ITB’s Communication Coordinator, explained that this course shifts the focus away from traditional classroom learning, encouraging students to engage in direct industry projects under the guidance of experienced practitioners.
“Practice-based learning is our priority,” Nurlaela emphasized. “Students are expected to develop independent learning skills while solving real industry problems.”
SBM ITB conducted a direct information session on its Management and Entrepreneurship study programs. The event featured insights from Dr. Ahmad Fajar Hendarman, Head of the Management Study Program, and Sonny Rustiadi, Ph.D, Head of the Entrepreneurship Study Program, providing prospective students with a deeper understanding of the regular and international program options.
Beyond academic discussions, SBM ITB hosted a campus tour attended by approximately 185 students, accompanied by their parents and families. SBM ITB alumni were invited to share their experiences and success stories to offer a firsthand perspective.
“SBM ITB is a complete package. Here, we don’t just develop hard skills but also essential soft skills. This combination creates successful leaders in the corporate world,” said Celta Amadea, an SBM ITB alumnus from the Class of 2023 and current Product Manager at XL Axiata.
With its strong industry connections, SBM ITB ensures that all faculty members have direct experience in the professional sector, making it a highly relevant and responsive institution aligned with workforce demands.
