Students of the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Study Program at the SBM ITB, officially launched a field program at Pasar Atas and Pasar Cimindi, Cimahi, West Java, on Tuesday (23/2).
For the next 30 days, 43 students will be involved in field activities as part of the Societal Impact Program integrated into the Business Scale Up course. They will be divided into eleven groups, focusing on developing the dry product and necessities zone, the vegetable and fresh product zone, the culinary and craft zone at Pasar Atas, and the fashion sector at Pasar Cimindi.
This field activity aims to impact community businesses positively. Indra Firmansah Bagjana, the Head of the Trade Division of the Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry Service of the Cimahi City Government, inaugurated the activity.
“As students, your task is to create branding that elevates ordinary products’ value,” Indra stated.
Indra mentioned that this program aims to create a mutual symbiosis, allowing students to learn directly through field practice while assisting the community in producing high-value products.
Head of the SBM ITB Entrepreneurship Undergraduate Study Program, Sonny Rustiadi, highlighted the importance of markets in the real economy.
“The market is a key driver of the economy for real businesses, making it an interesting ecosystem to explore, build, and impact.
Sonny hopes that students can contribute by developing skills in digital marketing and finance, which will help strengthen the supply chain, especially during Ramadan—a significant challenge for business stakeholders.”
Nurhasan, Head of the Pasar Atas Traders Association, appreciated this field activity.
“In Pasar Atas, most traders are between 40 and 50 years old, so adopting digital technology is a challenge. With this program, we hope that traditional markets can transform into markets that optimize digital platforms.”
Jefry, the Head of the Cimindi Market Association, expressed his support for the program and hoped for positive outcomes. Meanwhile, Hana, a trader who was recognized as a National Inspirational Female Trader, motivated students to identify opportunities even in challenging times. She shared her experience of discovering solutions and increasing her sales through online channels during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hafiz, a 2025 SBM student who participated in this field activity, was very grateful for the opportunity given.
“This program is not only a means for us to learn but also allows us to make a direct impact. In addition, this program further convinces us to achieve our dreams of becoming businessmen.”
This program is expected to emulate the success of the SBM ITB intervention, which pioneered the activation of Cihapit Market in 2015, followed by Kosambi Market, which succeeded in attracting the interest of visitors and young people to develop into a trendy place for young people.
