The Management Student Family of the Bandung Institute of Technology School of Business Management (KMM ITB), in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Bandung City, held a blood donation activity at the Student Lounge of the SBM ITB (28/2). ITB students and the general public enthusiastically participated in this event, marked by the number of participants exceeding the quota set by the committee.
The activity took place from 1 PM to 5 PM and successfully collected over 50 blood bags. These bags will be distributed to hospitals and patients in need. Participants who made reservations in advance attended according to a predetermined schedule, ensuring that the blood donation process occurred in an orderly manner without long queues. This reflects the high level of awareness and social responsibility among students and the surrounding community.
The primary goal of this blood donation event was to help maintain the blood supply at PMI, ensuring that there is a sufficient availability of blood for those in need.
“We aim to assist the smallest and closest needs within our community,” said Abie Alfiera, an SBM ITB student on the committee for this event.
According to him, this initiative is a genuine expression of student concern for others and serves to raise awareness about the importance of regular blood donation. To show appreciation for the donors, the committee prepared goodie bags filled with nutritious food and snacks to help with their recovery after donating.
Additionally, the Bandung City PMI contributed by providing vitamins to help restore stamina. This effort was made to ensure that participants felt comfortable and safe after donating their blood.
This activity was attended not only by regular donors but also by people donating blood for the first time. One of the initial donors, Alin, admitted that she felt nervous before donating blood. However, after completing the process, she felt relieved and realized that donating blood was quick and not as intimidating as she had imagined.
“At first, I was scared because I had never donated blood before, but it turned out that the process was fast and didn’t hurt. I might join again next time,” she said.
In addition to benefiting those in need of blood, this activity also has a positive impact on the donors. According to various health sources, donating blood regularly can provide several health benefits for donors, such as helping to regenerate blood cells, improving blood circulation, and reducing the risk of heart disease.
Seeing the high enthusiasm, KMM ITB plans to make this activity an annual routine agenda so that more people can contribute to this humanitarian action. With increasing awareness of the importance of blood donation, it is hoped that more students and the community will be willing to participate in future opportunities so that they can help more people in need.
