The Electricity Research and Development Center of PT PLN (Persero) visited the SBM ITB on Friday, February 28. They conducted a comparative study on how SBM ITB manages the academic journal The Asian Journal of Technology Management (AJTM) SBM ITB.
The PLN Research and Development Center wants to deepen its understanding of editorial management, the process of managing scientific manuscripts, and strategies for improving the quality of academic journals. This initiative is part of PLN’s commitment to improving the quality of their journal publication, the Journal of Technology and Policy in Electric Power (JTPEP), which focuses on technology and policy issues in the electricity sector.
PLN wants to learn various aspects of scientific journal management to meet national and international standards such as the Scopus and SINTA indexes. This management starts from forming a credible editorial board, the mechanism for accepting and selecting manuscripts, to effective editing and review methods.

The PLN team at the visit consisted of journal managers and researchers in the electricity sector. Meanwhile, SBM ITB was represented by the Head of the AJTM Management Team, Dzikri Firmansyah Hakam. The presence of both parties reflects a shared commitment to improving the quality of scientific publications in Indonesia, especially in energy technology and management.
One of the main topics discussed was the manuscript selection and review process at AJTM, including how SBM ITB ensures that every published article meets high academic standards. The AJTM team also shared experiences regarding the challenges in maintaining consistent journal quality and the strategies they implement to achieve indexing on prestigious academic platforms such as Scopus and SINTA.
PLN provided an update on the current status of their journal, JTPEP, which serves as a platform for research and policy publications in the electricity sector. They discussed the role of the PLN Research Institute in supporting scientific research and publications, as well as the challenges they encounter in attracting contributions from academics and industry practitioners.
This visit provided a valuable learning opportunity for PLN and opened doors for greater collaboration between PLN and SBM ITB. Both parties recognize the potential for cooperation in several areas, including joint research initiatives, capacity-building programs focused on scientific publications, and workshops designed for researchers and academics. These workshops aim to enhance the quality of their manuscripts, helping them achieve publication in reputable journals.
This comparative study visit represents a strategic initiative for PLN to enhance its capacity for managing scientific journals. By learning from the experiences of SBM ITB and adopting best practices discussed during the visit, PLN is optimistic about improving the quality of the Journal of Technology and Policy in Electric Power (JTPEP). This enhancement aims to contribute more to the academic community and the electricity industry.
