In delivering my idea, I have to persuade my boss without having to make her patronized or pressured.” - Become Sand in The River
Several people called Prof. Sudarso as a flabby leader, instead of rejecting the assumption he chosen to agree with that. Prof. Sudarso says that his leadership style indeed adapted to the philosophy he believes in — “to be sand in a river”. “I have a philosophy; in the flow of the river, I am the sand. The sand will be able to polish the stone no matter how sharp, so that after a long time, with the sand friction, the stone will be smooth without realizing that it has been rubbed using sand”, Prof. Sudarso added. Everyone must have strength and weakness, so let us cover up our shortcomings and go higher together with our strengths. “
4. Stay Grateful by Staying Innovating
We have to be grateful for our achievements but don’t be complacent with it. Prof. Sudarso claimed that SBM always opens its door for another faculty, even another university to learn from SBM ITB – the curriculum, learning process, laboratory, and how SBM ITB becomes a successful faculty. He reminds his co-workers to always innovating so that SBM remains to be the Leader of the school faculty. “I always remind SBM ITB staff, there are so many people learn from SBM ITB and succeed in imitating our success, if we stop innovating and go beyond, another school or faculty will advance past us.”
5. Nepakke Awak Edewe
This Javanese term means “set as yourself” it means to do what you want other people done to you and don’t do something you don’t want people done to you. Prof. Sudarso Kaderi Wiryono also reminds us to be ourselves so that we know what kind of actions and responses we want or we don’t wish to, or other people did to us. “If you don’t like to be pinched, don’t pinch other people, if you hate being slandered just don’t slander other people, that’s what I do, although indeed it’s difficult”, he warned.
