Research and publications is one of the main activities as academician. Students mainly postgraduate and early career faculty members often encounter many difficulties, especially in the writing of the results of research for scientific research both nationally and internationally. Through publications, the knowledge will be delivered and used for people. It means that publications need to be prepared to achieve the journal standard before it released. Process of preparing the manuscript can be exhausting. But is there any ways that can help the preparation process less fatigue? Meet Prof. Dr. Delik Hudalah, S.T, M.T, M.Sc from SAPPK ITB. In addition to being a lecturer, he is also an editor for ICMEM. He delivered some suggestions in preparation for publishing.
First thing first, what we should prepare at first to write the draft for the journals?
When the papers is already, do the peer review and proofreading. After it all set, submit it. It will come back with reviews from editor, but do not give up. Try to manage the revisions, maybe another proofreading, and then submit again.
How we select the right journal for our papers?
Many journals finder will help us in finding the right journal. On the other hand, we should consider the credibility of the journal. “The other way is to consult with your colleagues. They can be your supervisors, seniors, or peers. They would provide you information based on their experiences.” Prof. Delik added.
Editor’s perspective on submission
The editors will see “why do I have to read your paper” through the cover letter. The authors can share the importance and urgency of the papers. It’s like pitching to the editors. “It’s like a shortcut to attracting editors.” as Prof. Delik closed the talk.
