Many skills are becoming obsolete as technology advances, necessitating the acquisition of new skills. One of the competencies that will be useful as a competitive advantage in the future is the ability to process and translate big data.
SBM ITB’s Career Service, Industrial, and Alumni Relations unit held a Big Data Analytics with RapidMiner workshop as part of the integrated career preparation program for final year students and fresh graduates in the early to mid-stage of their careers.
The Big Data Analytics workshop is a two-day event, with its first session on Friday (22/10/2021) inviting the speakers from the Big Data and Business Analytics Laboratory of SBM ITB, Dr. eng. Manahan Siallagan, S.Si., M.T., M.Sc. and the Founder of Technaut Education, Muhammad Apriandito, MBA.
Manahan discussed business analytics in terms of challenges & opportunities and its differences compared to data analytics. According to Manahan, business analytics is more actionable because it focuses on problem-solving and increasing efficiency as it functions as a decision-making tool to make more well-informed and strategic business decisions.
Another topic discussed by Muhammad Apriandito was data visualization and how to choose the proper chart to represent data. Participants were encouraged to experiment with RapidMiner directly through a study case of Telco Customer Churn case. Apriandito also delivered material on data analysis, such as data analysis into a standardized format, handling missing or unbalanced data to improve data quality.
The second session of this workshop will be on Saturday (23/10/2021), discussing supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning and the business opportunity for data management with the CEO of Kazee, Dr. I Made Ariya Sanjaya.
