Management students from the SBM ITB class of 2024 participating in the “Tourism and Hospitality Marketing” course took a field trip to Wetland Park and Sein Farm Cisurupan, on Thursday (22/02). They observed and looked for data for their final semester assignment regarding creative and sustainable marketing plans there.
“Today, I’m excited because I was told we would be exploring Cisurupan,” said Vania Sarah, SBM ITB Management Student 2024. “I’m excited to see the opportunities and potential of tourism in Cisurupan, especially while studying.”
The Head of Cisurupan Village, Misbakhudin, said that Cisurupan Village is one of the sub-districts located southeast of Bandung City. The area is 220,654 hectares, with most of the land is owned by the city government and used as green open space. Therefore, Cisurupan Village has a lot of potential in the tourism sector.
Many water catchment ponds are on the way to the large park at Wetland Park. Wetland Park originally functioned as a water catchment area because the area is often flooded. Being a water catchment area, Wetland Park has reduced flooding. Additionally, it has turned into a tourist attraction, with many multifunctional gazebos donated by the Jarambah Community.
At Wetland Park, students were invited to plant chilis. They were given all the equipment, such as small pots, soil, and chili seeds. While planting, the students looked happy. It was an exciting experience for everyone.
Students then make observations by taking photos and videos and marking places with potential for development. Students also captured many moments in this green place besides making observations.
Students then walked to Sein Farm, which is not too far from Wetland Park. The journey taken was quite challenging. Students have to overcome quite sharp descents and inclines. However, this does not discourage students from observing and collecting data for their final semester assignments.
The Sein Farm administrators warmly welcomed the students’ arrival. Sein Farm stands for Sekemala Integrated Farm. All forms of agricultural or livestock work are integrated to create zero waste. One example of integrated farming is using chicken manure as compost for existing plants. Sein Farm has several farms, such as chickens and catfish. Sein Farm also has a plant and vegetable garden.
Sein Farm also has several adorable photo locations with rice fields and green trees as a backdrop. Students often visit these places to capture moments with friends.
Students continue their primary task of making observations. They interviewed local officials and documented the various farms at Sein Farm. The students felt that the experience of going to Wetland Park and Sein Farm Cisurupan not only broadened their insight but also opened their eyes to the potential of places in Bandung.
“This is an enjoyable experience, new adventure, nature, and connecting with nature,” said Cristobal Beetz Sanclemente, SBM ITB International Exchange Student.
“I didn’t think there was a place like this in Bandung. “This place has a lot of potential that can be developed in the future,” said Rwayda, SBM ITB 2024 Management Student.
“This made me realize how beautiful Bandung is,” said Reyna Aszzura Rasyida, SBM ITB 2024 Management Student.
The observations and data collected will be important in making creative and sustainable marketing plans to develop tourism in Cisurupan later. This experience opened their eyes to Bandung’s hidden tourism potential and fostered enthusiasm to contribute to its development.
