Eight student groups, including one international student from Spain, brought their unique perspectives to the table. These 41 management students from SBM-ITB explored the tourism potential of Cisurupan Village, particularly the tourist destinations Sein Farm and Wetland Park. They presented their creative ideas for developing tourism potential to the Bandung City Government at the Bandung Creative Hub on Thursday (6/6).
“We are grateful that today we carry out the final process of student learning in the Hospitality and Tourism Marketing course,” said the Head of Bandung City Tourism, Yayah Sumiati.
The head of the Water Damage Control Division at the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Service, Dini Dianawati, was enthusiastic about the students’ ideas. She hopes that SBM students can actively contribute to Bandung’s development.
“The idea is good, but let’s collaborate further,” said Dini.
This presentation was part of the final exam for the Hospitality and Tourism Marketing course. The activity reflects SBM ITB’s real contribution to implementing tourism marketing concepts and practices and developing a tourism penta-helix involving academics, government, communities, business people, and the media to advance tourism.
“This assignment was carried out for a full semester, starting with a field trip and observations to Cisurupan Village as a first step,” said Ilma Aulia Zaim, PhD, lecturer of the Hospitality and Tourism Marketing course.
Students conducted field research in this activity to understand local tourism conditions and potential. Throughout the semester, students developed various innovative and sustainable marketing strategies.
“They produced marketing ideas that include branding, promotions, destination management, and community involvement,” said Ilma.
She added that through this project, students are expected to learn theoretically and apply their knowledge in authentic contexts, positively contributing to local tourism development.
SBM ITB, in a collaborative effort with the Bandung City Culture and Tourism Service (Disbudpar), Water Resources and Highways Service (DSDABM), Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP), Cisurupan Village, and the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), has played a pivotal role in this project.
The results of this collaboration are expected to provide valuable input for the Bandung City Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) and other related agencies in their efforts to advance tourism in Cisurupan Village. The unique attractions of Cisurupan Village, such as Sein Farm and Wetland Park, have the potential to make it a leading destination in Bandung. Therefore, the role of SBM ITB students in providing creative ideas and constructive input is of utmost importance.
The representative of Pokdarwis Cisurupan, Dasep Rizal Alfandi, hopes this activity can encourage tourism in the Cisurupan area.
“I hope that apart from being a course assignment, this presentation can also be followed up by related parties in the future,” said Dasep.
A Spanish student in the SBM ITB Hospitality and Tourism Marketing class, Cristobal Beetz Sanclemente, was thrilled to be involved in this program. It not only helped him better understand Bandung’s culture, traditions, and life, but also provided him with a deeper appreciation for the city.
“By taking this course, I learned more about the cultural traditions and explored the city, Cisurupan Park, and Sein Farm,” said Cristobal.
“This helped me to adapt to Bandung, love it even more, and become part of its Sundanese lifestyle. I am very grateful for this course because it provided additional experience in Indonesia.” He added.
