The SBM ITB held a fire simulation attended by all SBM building’s students, lecturers, staff, and academics on Monday (29/7). The Head of Occupational Health and Safety of the SBM Building, Krisna, and the Head of the Emergency Response KKK Section of the SBM Building, Taryono, led the simulation.

This fire simulation is part of increasing the academic community’s awareness and readiness for emergencies. In the simulation, participants are taught various emergency responses, such as evacuation to the assembly point, dousing the fire using a fire engine, evacuation using an ambulance, and how to extinguish a fire using a light fire extinguisher (APAR).

Participants were also given socialization on how to turn off the fire on LPG gas. The importance of this routine practice can reduce mistakes during panic situations.

“If we are in a panic situation, we cannot think clearly. We want to minimize this problem by continuing to practice,” he said.

The Directorate of Facilities and Infrastructure of ITB hopes this simulation can help build a culture of occupational safety and health (K3) in the ITB environment. They emphasize the importance of building a K3 team in each building and carrying out routine activities such as building inspections and emergency response drills.

Sarah Ann Ullyma Manihuruk, an SBM ITB student who had the opportunity to use APAR directly, shared her experience. She said learning to use APAR was an exciting and memorable experience.

“After learning how to use APAR and practicing it directly, I feel more confident and safe because I already know what to do in a fire situation,” she said, reflecting the simulation’s empowerment to the participants.

This fire simulation is expected to increase the readiness and awareness of all occupants of the SBM ITB building to deal with emergencies and minimize the risk of accidents. The entire ITB academic community can contact (022) 2500204 for more information about emergency response services.
