SBM ITB has officially partnered with the Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning Office of West Java Province to support the West Java Women Empowerment (WJWE) Caang program. The Cooperation Agreement (PKS) was signed during the West Java Province Coordination Meeting for the Preparation of the Implementation of Women-Friendly and Child-Caring Villages/Sub-Districts (D/KRPPA) and the inauguration of the West Java Women’s School Building in Bandung (7/8).
Alongside three other universities in Bandung, SBM ITB will contribute to the development and empowerment of village women through the WJWE Caang program. The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Java Province, Herman Suryatman, stated that the provincial government aims to empower women in villages through this initiative.
The program includes a Training of Trainers (TOT) for 135 district or city-level trainers and 1,200 sub-district-level trainers. These trainers are expected to pass on their knowledge to between 10 and 100 women in each village across West Java.
Herman states women’s empowerment is crucial for the nation’s progress. He emphasized that mothers play a key role in households, and when supported by good education and economic opportunities, they can positively impact family welfare.
The challenges faced in women’s empowerment in West Java can be addressed through cross-sector collaboration. Therefore, a clear understanding of implementing women’s economic empowerment through the WJWE Caang program is essential for the welfare of the people of West Java.
