The Decision Making and Strategic Negotiation Expertise Group (KK DMSN) at SBM ITB successfully hosted a DMSN Talk event themed “Becoming a Great Researcher from Zero” in Bandung on Thursday (19/9).

This event provided a platform for academics, particularly postgraduate students, to share experiences and insights about the research world.

Participants were guided through the research process, from designing a solid proposal to publishing their findings in reputable journals. The three distinguished speakers—Valid Hasyimi, Dinda Thalia, and Carrisa Tibiani—each with unique expertise offered invaluable advice to the attendees.

Valid Hasyimi, a doctoral candidate and prospective lecturer at SBM ITB, shared his journey through his doctoral education. He described his research experience as a “roller coaster” full of challenges. Still, through perseverance and support from his peers, he overcame obstacles and produced high-quality scientific work.

Dinda Thalia, a 2020 MSM graduate with a background in Physics, provided tips for developing innovative research proposals with the potential for publication in Scopus Q1 and Q2 indexed journals. She emphasized the importance of collaboration in research endeavors.

Carrisa Tibiani, an MSM graduate who achieved a perfect GPA, introduced the concept of State of the Art (SOTA) as a method for identifying research gaps. She explained how SOTA enables researchers to find original and relevant topics. Carrisa also highlighted the importance of having multiple plans, especially for publications, to ensure a smooth completion of studies in Management Science.

Dr. Pri Hermawan, Chair of KK DMSN, underscored the pivotal role of KK DMSN as a research ecosystem that supports scientific development. Pri invited new students to join and actively contribute to KK activities.

KK DMSN SBM ITB follows the Japanese university model, as many DMSN lecturers are graduates of Japanese institutions and have brought this culture to the group. While the model is still evolving, the academic community’s support helps foster an exceptional research environment.

The DMSN Talk event served as a platform for knowledge sharing and an opportunity to build networks and collaborations among researchers. Events like this are expected to continue, inspiring the younger generation to engage actively in research and contribute to the nation’s progress.
