MBA students from the Young Professional and Business Leadership Executive MBA programs had the opportunity to visit PT Amerta Indah Otsuka (PT AIO), a subsidiary of the global Otsuka Group, at its production facility in Sukabumi, West Java, on Friday (11/29). The visit was part of the Industry-Based Learning and Business Leadership courses.
During the visit, students observed the world-class manufacturing processes and the company’s commitment to sustainability, gaining valuable insights into operational excellence and environmental responsibility.
PT AIO, established in 1997 as a joint venture between Otsuka Pharmaceutical Japan and PT Kapal Api under the name PT Kapal Indah Otsuka, produces well-known food and beverage products, including Pocari Sweat, Ion Water, SOYJOY, Fibe Mini, and Oronamin C. The company was rebranded as PT Amerta Indah Otsuka in 1999, opening its first factory in Sukabumi in 2004 and a second factory in Kejayan, East Java, in 2010.
The Sukabumi facility produces Pocari Sweat, Ion Water, Oronamin C, and Fibe Mini, while the Kejayan facility manufactures beverages alongside SOYJOY, PT AIO’s sole food product.
A key highlight of the visit was the aseptic production line, which operates at a remarkable speed of 750 bottles per minute without human intervention. This innovative process enhances efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. Students also learned about the company’s “Eco Bottle” initiative, part of the Blue Planet program, which exemplifies its commitment to sustainability.
The Otsuka Blue Planet program addresses plastic waste management through three pillars: Eco Village, Eco Blue School, and Eco Bottle. In 2022, PT AIO introduced the Eco Bottleāa Pocari Sweat packaging solution incorporating 30% recycled plastic, with an ambitious goal of 100% recycled plastic by 2030. The company has also introduced Maxi Cap, an innovation on Oronamin C and Fibe Mini bottles, enabling users to open bottles without an opener.
