Jessita Kirandra, a Master of Science in Management (MSM) student at SBM ITB, won the Best Paper Presentation award at the 47th World Conference on Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (WCASET) in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 27–28, 2024. Her research, entitled “OMNI Personality Traits as an Alternative Measurement in Improving Business and Management Practices,” successfully bridges psychology and business management, demonstrating the potential of personality assessment to enhance workplace performance.
This achievement stems from a project funded by ITB’s Research, Community Service, and Innovation (PPMI) program. As a research assistant, Jessita played a key role in every project stage, from data collection and analysis to presenting at the prestigious international conference.
Throughout the research process, Jessita received valuable guidance from her supervisor, Dr Henndy Ginting, S.Psi., M.Si., a psychologist who provided face-to-face consultations approximately once every two weeks and additional support via online communication for minor issues. This close collaboration covered all aspects of the research, from methodological decisions to refining the unique novelties of her study.
Jessita’s research introduced the OMNI Personality Traits measurement tool and examined its effectiveness in academic and professional contexts. Her findings highlighted the tool’s potential to assess correlations between personality traits and performance, particularly within business and management education. This aligns with her long-term goal of integrating her background in psychology with business management to contribute to the betterment of society.
Her presentation was well received by conference attendees. Although her study is related to her master’s thesis, it focuses on a more specific dataset collected in an academic setting, whereas her thesis explores the topic on a broader scale.
Jessita chose WCASET after extensively researching its reputation and alignment with her field. The conference theme, “WCASET NEXUS: Where Science, Technology, and Education Converge,” provided a highly relevant platform for her interdisciplinary work.
The journey to the conference was not without challenges, requiring Jessita to balance manuscript writing, data collection and analysis, and administrative tasks. She noted that her MSM coursework equipped her with strong presentation and communication skills, emphasizing the importance of understanding one’s audience and effectively conveying research findings.
Moving forward, Jessita plans to submit her research for publication in a leading academic journal. She is currently refining her manuscript to meet publication standards. Based on her experience, she advises fellow researchers to carefully evaluate conferences before submitting their work, considering factors such as the event’s track record, the expertise of its panelists, and its overall reputation.
