Center of Islamic Business and Finance (CIBF) was established in April 2020 as a research unit of the School of Business and Management Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB) with the aim to foster a strong foundation of Islamic Business and enhancing Islamic Finance to the betterment of the society. CIBF was also appointed by Komite Nasional Ekonomi dan Keuangan Syariah (KNEKS) as a center of excellence for Islamic Asset and Wealth Management. To these ends, the CIBF individually and in partnership with other institutions will focus on the areas of education, consultations and training.

The global population of 1.8 billion Muslims with total spending around US$2.1 trillion in 2017, the Islamic economy continues its steady growth. In line with this growth, the halal industry is growing. Therefore, the halal concept becomes critical in every activity throughout the supply chain, from the supplier to customers. Along with the development of the halal industry, causing changes in consumer behavior to be more demanding with quality assurance and halal in various types of products ranging from food, medicine, cosmetics, fashion, to services and lifestyle. To support the creation of products and services in accordance with halal principles, the role of technology and innovation is critical. It is predicted that in the near future the development of technology and innovation in the halal industry will develop massively.

Pada tahun 2020 tercatat sebanyak 18 juta santri di Indonesia yang tersebar di sekitar 30 ribu pondok pesantren di seluruh Indonesia. Jumlah tersebut diyakini akan menjadi kekuatan ekonomi yang besar jika dapat dikelola dengan baik sehingga pesantren diprediksi akan muncul sebagai kekuatan ekonomi yang baru yang mampu mendorong perekonomian nasional.
Seminar Online CIBF kali ini akan secara khusus membahas tentang Bisnis Pesantren di Indonesia. Seminar Online yang berjudul Pengembangan Bisnis Pesantren Berbasis E-Commerce dilaksanakan pada Jumat, 13 November 2020, Pukul 13.30-16.00. Seminar tersebut dipandu oleh moderator Oktofa Yudha Sudrajad, Ph.D (Director of Center for Islamic Business and Finance (CIBF) SBM ITB), dihadiri oleh Prof. Dr. Ir. Sudarso Kaderi Wiryono, DEA (Guru Besar SBM ITB dan Islamic Finance Expert) yang memberikan Opening Speech. Dilanjutkan oleh para pakar yang ahli di bidangnya: M. Saat ini, pesantren mengalami modernisasi dan memformulasikan dirinya sebagai lembaga pendidikan yang mampu menjawab tuntutan masa depan tanpa kehilangan jati dirinya. Bisnis pesantren yang dikenal saat ini merupakan hal yang baru digencarkan selama beberapa tahun terakhir ketika market muslim dinilai besar dan adanya peluang pasar. Isu penting yang perlu diperhatikan selanjutnya adalah terkait sustainability atau keberlanjutan.
