Shifa Hustim Sahara, an esteemed alumni of the Master of Science in Management (MSM ITB), shared her invaluable journey at the SBM. Her MSM studies equipped her with a structured mindset and deep customer knowledge, paving the way for her current role as a Marketing Management Trainee at Paragon Corp.

Shifa shared this experience at the “Afternoon Chat” event held by the SBM ITB Management Science Alumni Association on Friday (5/4). This event was held to help current students navigate life after graduation. In addition to Shifa, Widya Nandini, an SBM ITB Doctoral Science Management (DSM) alumni, attended the Afternoon Chat this time.

Shifa currently holds the position of Marketing Management Trainee at Paragon Corp. Initially, Shifa participated in the Vokraf x SBM ITB program due to collaboration between SBM ITB and Paragron Corp. When Paragon had an open recruitment, Shifa immediately took the opportunity.

Widya is now a research assistant at the University of Bolton in England. Previously, she was a senior researcher at the KPI Institute and Katadata Indonesia.

Widya Nandini, a Doctoral Science Management (DSM) alumni from SBM ITB, highlighted the practicality of the DSM program. The courses, designed to develop in-depth research skills, were instrumental in her career as a research assistant at the University of Bolton in England.

Currently, Widya is assisting 4 professors on campus. Widya also helps the professor’s research and publications.

According to her, the DSM output process, in the form of publications and research experience, plays a vital role in his current work, especially in English. Widya admitted that using English during university has been beneficial for her to adapt well at work.

Widya got her current job when accompanying her husband, who was pursuing a PhD program at the University of Manchester. She is seeking work as a research assistant or postdoc at several campuses. After going through several registration and interview processes, Widya finally settled in the UK in the sixth month after getting a job at the University of Bolton.

According to Widya, one of the primary keys to getting a job is to clarify your CV and experience to match the required job description. Widya also reminded the audience to provide evidence of what has been written on the CV.

Shifa shared a practical tip for job hunting: start before graduation. Identify your target companies, understand their requirements, and master the necessary skills. This proactive approach can significantly increase your chances of landing a job.

Another tip is doing independent learning and participating in webinars and workshops to support your career and network. She also suggested making a plan to be more focused.

Similarly, Widya emphasized the importance of planning to accelerate and make the job search process closer to graduation easier. She also mentioned that praying and putting in maximum effort should be done simultaneously.
